About

David Adedeji Adeleke was born on 21 November 1992. He is better known by his stage name Davido. The Nigerian singer, songwriter, and music producer rose to prominence in 2012 after releasing his first studio album "Omo Baba Olowo.”

Personal Life

David Adedeji Adeleke was born on 21 November 1992. He is better known by his stage name Davido. The Nigerian singer, songwriter, and music producer rose to prominence in 2012 after releasing his first studio album "Omo Baba Olowo.”

Davido had already spent time in the United States. He was born in Atlanta and returned there every summer but he had little experience with American life. He arrived in Huntsville when he was 16 years old.

Davido’s father, Dr Adedeji Adeleke, a well-known businessman and Seventh-day Adventist dropped him off with his passport, $2,000 cash, and freshman registration documents for Oakwood University.

Davido spent the majority of his time after that making beats and recording vocal references to send to a cousin in Lagos, a fellow musician with a vast network of industry contacts. His grades deteriorated, and he dropped out after three semesters without informing his father.

He first went to Atlanta, where he got into clubs using his older brother's ID and spent the money Chief Adeleke sent for school and living expenses on drinks and motels.

Later, he threw away his SIM card and flew to London, where he shifted his focus from production to vocals and went MIA for several months.

When Davido returned to Lagos in 2011, he was apprehended by police officers at the airport. He came back with tattoos and piercings.

Davido reached an agreement with his father after failing to complete his business management degree in America. He returned to school, but snuck out of his dorm room to attend industry parties and blew off exams to record.

Despite his antics, things turned out well for him. Today, Davido is referred to as the King of Modern Afrobeat.

As a result of his innate cultural literacy, Davido has triumphed where many have struggled. Perhaps the results of being raised between two different worlds.

Davido’s birthday

Davido received over N200 million as a cash gift on his 29th birthday which he celebrated in Dubai.

On his birthday this week, the award-winning singer challenged each of his friends, fans, and associates to donate a million Naira, with a goal of N100 million, which was met within an hour, according to the singer, who shared proof of payment on his Instagram page.

Davido would later donate all the money received from fans, family, and friends to orphanages across Nigeria.

"I am delighted to announce that all the funds received totalling N200,000,000 (Sh54 million) will be donated to orphanages across Nigeria as well as the Paroche Foundation," he said.

Schooling

Davido received the best education possible thanks to his parents' wealth. For his elementary and secondary school education, he went to British International School.

He went to Oakwood University in Alabama to study Business Management before dropping out to focus solely on his music career. After some time, he decided to follow his father's advice and resume his education.

He began studying music at Babcock University in 2011 and graduated in 2015. His father had paid the university to establish a music department.

At Babcock University, he pursued a degree in music and graduated with honours.

Davido went to British International School in Lagos before moving to Alabama when he was 16 years old.

Career

After returning to Nigeria in 2011, Davido began actively working on his first album, "Omo Baba Lowo." In 2012, he released the album, with his second single becoming a massive hit that lasted for a long time.

The singles "Skelewu" and "Gobe" became huge hits in 2013 and were ranked in the top ten on the Premium Times List. The following year, he collaborated with a couple of incredible artists, including Mi Casa, Diamond Platnumz, Sarkodie, and Tiwa Savage, to name a few.

In 2017, he was named Best African Act at the MOBO Awards, and in 2018, he was named Best International Act at the BET Awards. In late 2019, he released his second album, "A Good Time," and in May 2020, he released his third album, "A Better Time."

Davido has collaborated with a variety of artists to create incredible music all over the world. He has established himself as an excellent musician, collaborator, and business promoter.

Relationship

Davido has a thing for beautiful women, and he's dated a lot of them since he rose to fame.

Sira Kante, a 19-year-old Guinean model based in the United States, was once Davido's crush. They started dating in 2015, and OBO was known for flaunting moments with her whenever he could. The relationship didn't last long; they parted ways over personal reasons.

The fact that Omo Baba Olowo has his sights set on big Nyash is no longer news. Once upon a time, Davido dated mixed-breed Ghanaian beauty Nish Kards.

Let's go back to 2013. Davido dated Funmi, a University of Durham graduate, for a short time before the relationship fell apart. When OBO allegedly tweeted a photo of Funmi with the caption "beach things with my baby and crew,"

Sophie Momodu, the cousin of media mogul Dele Momodu, had an affair with Davido and eventually became his baby mama. In May 2015, the couple welcomed their first child, Imade.

However, the two parents later became embroiled in a series of controversies and a social media feud.

Amanda Chioma made headlines earlier this year when she was linked to Davido's second child. Hailey Veronica Adeleke is the name of the baby girl born to the Atlanta-based model.

Chioma Avril Rowland was treated with extreme caution by Davido, who even splashed the cash on her.

The singer has been screaming for everyone to know that he has a girlfriend, and he has even revealed her name, indicating that he is truly smitten. Davido spoiled Chioma with expensive gifts during two shopping sprees in Dubai and Paris.

However, in February 2021, while on vacation in the Caribbean, Davido was photographed holding hands with Mya Yafai. His love story with Chioma Avril was on the verge of ending.

Chioma Avril Rowland deleted all photos with Davido from her Instagram page marking the end of a relationship with a woman who Davido repeatedly referred to as “His Wife.”

Wife

Many thought that Chioma Avril Rowland would be Davido’s wife. The musician has, on several occasions shown his sweet side.

He proudly announced to the world that Chioma is his 'wife' through music videos, social media posts, and other means. The two were to walk down the aisle in 2020.

Unfortunately, the coronavirus pandemic thwarted their plans. Since a lot has taken a turn for the worst.

They were reported to be going through difficulties. During this time, American model Mya Yafai came into the picture.

Since then, Davido's public romance with her has been at the centre of Nigerian entertainment news.

This has seen Chioma delete all of Davido’s images from her Instagram page. Neither has come out to confirm or deny reports of their alleged breakup.

Davido and Chioma began dating in 2019. It seems things will never go back to how they were.

Playboy or the ladies' man?

Davido has three known and two 'mysterious' baby mamas. Before Yafai came along, Larissa London was alleged to be Davido’s fourth baby mama.

Before baby Dawson, there was Ifeanyi Adeleke, Chioma Rowland and Davido's adorable son. Amanda, Davido's second baby mama, lives in Atlanta, Georgia. Together they have a beautiful daughter named Hailey Adeleke.

Davido also dated popular entrepreneur Sophia Momodu and their relationship resulted in the birth of another baby named Imade Adeleke.

The list of baby mamas continues with Ayotomide Labinjo, together with Ayotomide they bore a baby named Mitchell Anu Adeleke.

Family

Davido’s family comprises his parents and siblings. He is the second-born son and the last of African business magnet Adedeji Adeleke and his mother Veronica Adeleke.

Davido’s mother is deceased. Davido’s siblings are Adewale Adeleke, Sharon Adeleke, Ashley Coco Adeleke.

Davido’s godfather is construction magnate Aliko Dangote

Musical Journey

When David Adedeji Adeleke, better known as Davido, was on a Greyhound layover in Birmingham, Alabama, he noticed a familiar face on the CD rack of a bus station rest stop.

He was on his way to and from his college in nearby Huntsville. Davido had stopped by this station before. However, it was the first time he'd seen Nigerian music on a store shelf in a random Southern town, and it felt like a sign.

Davido's success came quickly, and he kept his fans satisfied with a slew of new songs released over the next few years while he worked on his sophomore album, The Baddest, which was still unreleased as of 2020.

Singles like "Gobe," "Aye," and "Pere," among many others, were produced between 2013 and 2017. He collaborated with big-name rappers like Meek Mill and Young Thug.

Davido signed a deal with RCA in between albums. A Good Time, featuring guest appearances from A Boogie wit da Hoodie, Peruzzi, Popcaan, Chris Brown, Summer Walker, Gunna, and other stars from around the world, was released in 2019. It did well both commercially and critically. In its first week of release, the album made the Billboard charts.

Controversy

With fame comes a never-ending supply of controversies. Davido, on the other hand, is an internet sweetheart in Africa. His larger-than-life persona has drawn a lot of attention, but that hasn't stopped him from dominating the music scene.

Sonia Jumbo sex scandal

Davido's name was listed among thousands of other names in a book about celebrity sex scandals. While Davido has been involved in three of these, the first one threatened the very foundation of his then-burgeoning career.

This was in February 2012. Davido only had two singles under his name. The book, which got leaked on Twitter, contained pictures of him in bed with an 18-year-old girl.

Sonia Jumbo, a student at Ghana's Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, hooked up with the singer following his appearance at her university's beauty pageant.

It was discovered that she leaked the photos. She was eventually suspended from school as a result of her actions.

Gobe controversy

When Davido's song Gobe was released in 2013, it became an instant hit, reaching the top of MTV Base's Official Naija Top Ten. However, Davido found himself in hot water after a Twitter user with the handle 'GobePassword' claimed that Davido had stolen the song.

This was a complicated situation because there was a third Twitter persona known as 'Password' who had a verified account and promoted Davido's praise for doing justice to the song.

For Davido, whose talent had always been questioned and scrutinised by the general public, this would be the first of many such accusations against his name.

More sexual scandals

Davido was hit by yet another sex scandal five years after breaking into the music industry.

This involved leaked photos as well, but it was more brutal because the poster body-shamed him for the size of his manhood. A user with the handle 'King Amarah' shared the photos on Twitter.

This was seemingly a vengeful move by Faith Nketsi. Davido responded to the poster this time, stating that he was not the one pictured and that he hadn't seen the lady in the picture in two years.

The song Fan Mi versus Nigeria Drugs Authority (NDLEA)

Fans Mi, a collaboration between Davido and Philadelphia rapper Meek Mill, was released on June 9th, 2015. It came with visuals that were clearly influenced by the Atlantan hip-hop scene to which the singer had been exposed.

As a result, the video featured beautiful and curvy women in sexy underwear lounging in a typical millionaire's mansion, while the storey within showed Davido trading hard drugs to a tough-looking man he'd duped.

The drugs had appeared to be cocaine but were not, and Davido had profited from the deal.

The National Drug and Law Enforcement Agency, or NDLEA, was not pleased with the video and launched an investigation into it, claiming that it glorified drugs.

The saga of Davido and Sophia Momodu's baby

In the early days of 2016, Davido’s baby mama Sophia Momodu accused him of attempting to kidnap his first daughter, Imade.

This news was shared by Dele Momodou, a well-known journalist. She (Dele) was cousins with Davido's baby mama, Sophia Momodu, and had recorded Davido's father and sister attempting to board a plane bound for Dubai.

Later, the singer explained in a lengthy and detailed rant that they were on their way to Dubai for a medical checkup for his first daughter, Imade, who had suffered health complications due to her mother's overindulgent lifestyle.

He had gone into great detail about his loveless relationship with his baby mama, as well as her marijuana-addicted lifestyle, which put their baby's life in jeopardy. He also accused Sophia's cousin, Dele Momodu, of pressuring him into marrying her.

Davido was hospitalised as a result of the controversy, which he blamed on Sophia Momodu but refused to elaborate on how she was to blame.

Davido’s bounced cheque

Davido has always been referred to as OBO, short for 'omo baba olowo,' (Son of a wealthy man) since his second single and breakout song, Dami Duro.

However, One Mr Anekwu Valentine of Prestige Autonet Limited, a car dealership, accused him of an attempt to pay the balance on a Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 with a forged check that the bank refused to honour.

Davido and Chioma

Davido has proven himself to be not only an ardent lover boy but also an unrepentant playboy over the years. This is evidenced by his relationship with Chioma, his third baby mama and one-time fiancee.

Following the singer's casting of her as his love interest in the Assurance video in 2018, the couple, who have a son, Ifeanyi together, became a topic of public interest.

Later in One Milli's video, they mention having a traditional wedding, but given recent events involving other women, it appears that will not be the case.

The first sign of this was a prank in which two sisters made a video claiming that Davido had impregnated and abandoned one of them. After Davido threatened them with legal action, they quickly came out to say it was all a joke.

The real trouble in paradise started when it was revealed that Davido had another baby mama, Larissa London, a London-based makeup artist.

Before the dust settled on this, a picture of Davido kissing a woman known as Mya Yafai surfaced on the internet.

This led to the alleged breakup of his relationship with Chioma. He has also referred to Chioma as Mama Ifeanyi, as opposed to wife, relegating their relationship to the connection their child provides.

Davido versus Burna Boy

Despite its enigmatic nature, the Davido-Burna Boy feud, which first surfaced in May 2019, will go down as one of the most intense and popular rivalries in Nigerian music history.

Victor AD song

On the 10th of May 2021, rumours circulated on Twitter that Davido had stolen Victor AD's romantic number, Jowo. These rumours were put to rest when Victor AD came forward and denied them. He said that he did not write the song and that Davido should be allowed to celebrate his tenth anniversary in peace.
