If music were a game of cards, Don Jazzy would be the one telling everybody ‘general market’ and ‘pick two’ when they thought the game was almost over.
It has always been ‘Don Jazzy again’. He is not just a don because of his skills in music production. He also has a superior ear for good music, knows how to deliver the kind of music people are not aware they need, and of course, an intuition to know how the tides will turn in the music industry.
For a man who has been in the industry for almost two decades, he sure knows how to keep the wheels turning. From music to social media and his unrequited love for Rihanna, to guest appearance on the reality TV show BBNaija, people love Don Jazzy, and he makes it known that he loves them too.
A few years ago, people regarded Don Jazzy as the man in the background, comfortable with doing the work and creating the music, not interested in socializing. The opposite is the case now. He could be taken as the don of social media and no one would argue. Perhaps this is why his social media is always abuzz with activity- the most recent of which is his participation in online skits with video creators and influencers.
His entrance into the music scene was the creation of Mo’Hits Records with D’banj, but his reign in this present dispensation at the Supreme Mavin Dynasty has surpassed what anybody would have thought Mo’Hits could be. He introduced his line-up of artistes at Mavin with the song Dorobucci and has gone on to produce global anthems. His record label comprises a lot more than talent: it has structure, consistency and a vision to be the powerhouse of Music in Africa in a short time.
He has not been without his fair share of controversy; he was reported to be in a clash with one-time signee to his record label over Intellectual Property theft, and also had a televised rift with Musician Olamide at the Headies Awards.
There have been seasons in Don Jazzy’s career and from what we can tell, this season is one of the Generation Z. Between 2014 and 2018, Don Jazzy signed Reekado Banks, Korede Bello, DNA, Ladipoe, Johnny Drille to Mavin. In 2019, he signed Rema, who is one of the biggest discoveries of that year and also the poster face for Mavin Records.
Recently, Don jazzy signed another talent to his group: an Afropop singer who goes by the name of Ayra Starr.
He took to his social media platforms to introduce the singer and her debut project, Ayra Starr EP and encouraged everyone to follow her. Since its release, the EP has topped the charts on Apple Music as number 1 Video, Album and Single. She has been called Don Jazzy’s latest card in their game of global domination.
For late comers. I signed a new phenomenal artist. Her name is @ayrastarr . She has a new EP out. Currently number 1 on Applemusic NG. Listen here and judge for yourself. ==> https://t.co/bukQVAGpYJ ⭐️👼🏾
