Many people aspire to be in reality tv shows for the exposure, fame and money that comes with it. But how many people get to star in their reality tv show? The percentage drops by a wide margin.
Months after the announcement of a Reality Tv Show in the works for the winner of the BB Naija Season 5 Lockdown edition, Lekan Agbelese, globally known as Laycon is about to come back on our screens for his reality Tv show titled ‘I am Laycon’ on Showmax.

The show will follow him as he makes efforts to break into the league of superstars, settling into his life as a star while juggling personal relationships and growing his music career in Lagos, the centre of excellence.
I Am Laycon is the first-ever Nigerian Original to be brought to the streaming platform Showmax, and it will air in February.

The first trailer for the show was released recently

But is Laycon big enough to amass the viewership that Showmax wants to score?
Following his win in September 2020, 26-year-old musician Laycon’s ratings have gone up: his Instagram follower count presently stands at 2.8 million: a meteoric rise for the winner of a reality TV show in Nigeria. While in the house, his wit and confidence got viewers talking from the first night. As more people began to ask who he was, it would seem as though he was ready with an answer. His single Who is Laycon surpassed a million views on Youtube and reeled in streams on streaming platforms in record-breaking time. His public confession about having sickle cell anaemia turned many people from observers into his supporters.

Be it sympathy, or relatability, or fandom everyone likes a character that shows them something about themselves and Laycon sat comfortably in the middle of their attention. His army of Icons became a force on social media and physical gatherings.

It could be because of the worldwide lockdown, but Show max reported that over 900 million people watched the show.
He has been presented as the ambassador of many brands and secured endorsements. In October he was appointed as the Youth Ambassador of his home state, Ogun state.

It is safe to say Laycon has had the numbers on lockdown, since lockdown.

This is not the first time reality Tv show stars would take part in their self-titled reality shows. 2019 winner Mercy Eke and her lover Ike Onyema aired their reality show after their exit from the Big brother house- it was from this show that viewers took the phrase ‘I just wanna relax and be taken care of’ after watching Mercy have a breakdown. The pair have since broken up and gone their separate ways. Ike has said he has plans to release a tell-all about his relationship with his estranged girlfriend, who is now allegedly married. And Mercy, well, she is merciless in her pursuit of the bag.

The question they have asked is ‘Will he achieve his ambition to blow?’ we are not soothsayers, so we can’t answer in the affirmative, but we hope he does.
