There is a famous Indian proverb that says: ‘A thief is a thief, whether he steals a diamond or a cucumber’.
A lot of the time, fame, power and money can instantly change a person for the better. However, in Kenya, celebrities, politicians and prominent figures have shown us that these things don't really change a person. They have shown that no matter how much things change, they stay the same.
There are a plethora of reasons why people decide to steal. Some people steal because they are hungry, while others steal because they are broke or have a drug or substance abuse issue. On the other hand, there are individuals who steal for little or no apparent reason and simply lack or ignore the barrier of conscience or anxiety that stops the majority of society from stealing anything and taking what is not theirs.
Regardless of their social standing or how much they have in their bank accounts, there are people who will still steal because that is just who they are. Call it greed, kleptomania, or dummies; whatever you call it, these celebrities are undoubtedly deserving of it for taking what clearly does not belong to them!
Funny enough, it's not unexpected that some, of our favorite celebrities and personalities have a stealing problem. What amazes us, though, is what these celebrities chose to steal.
Let's take a look at some Kenyan thieving celebs.
The ever-controversial Amber Ray is first on the list. There isn't a week that goes by that Amber isn't in the news for some reason or another. However our favorite headline was when she decided to 'steal' someone else's husband. Talk about HECTIC. Amber was not bothered by the fact that her boyfriend, prominent businessman Jimal Roho Safi, was married when they started dating. The love affair continued and at one point Amber was rumored to have become Jamal’s second wife. This love triangle was nothing short of drama!
Bahati, a popular gospel musician, has also been added to the list of celebrity thieves. The singer was recently accused of borrowing his popular song Dear Ex from a singer named Kay S. Fans got to know about all this drama when local gossip blogger Edgar Obare revealed receipts from Kay S explaining how Bahati had stolen the music. He even went on to detail how Bahati was trying to destroy all evidence proving his thievery. However, fans were left with more questions than answers when Kay S simply disappeared following his accusations.
Lastly we have popular Mwalimu Rachel who is a popular radio host and personality. Unbeknownst to many of her fans, the presenter has found herself involved in a number of shady activities that have even landed her in trouble. The radio presenter has been accused of violently beating up a man, and robbing him of goods worth KSH. 103,000/- which is an estimated 375,975 Naira. Talk about a plot twist! Rachel was scheduled to have her day in court back in 2020 but as of yet, nothing has come of the case.
This list demonstrates that not all thieves are broke and out of business; some have money and simply enjoy stealing from others.
