He has two decades in the music industry and has worked with artists from all over the globe. 2baba is a celebrated African musician who has contributed to the music industry and has created a leeway for the new age artists. 

2baba is one of the most decorated artists and his awards are the results of his hard work.

2baba Age

The musician was born on the 18th of September in 1975, in Jos Plateau State in Nigeria. 2baba's birth name is Innocent Ujah Idibi. The musician was born in the southern part of Nigeria. He is 44 years old.

2baba Education

The musician went to Mount Saint Gabriel's Secondary School in Makurdi, located at Benue State. He furthered his studies at the Institute Management & Technology (IMT) where he graduated with a preliminary National Diploma in Business Administration and Management.

He started composing songs while in IMT where he was afforded the opportunity to perform at the campus organised events, shows and parties.

2baba would also be invited to other regional campuses and institutions such as the University of Nigeria and Enugu State University of Science & Technology. He was involved in composing and singing jingle at GB Fan Club, at Enugu State Broadcasting Services (ESBS) which was running in 1996.

2Baba received an honorary Master of Arts in Music degree from Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State, Nigeria, in 2016. He was honoured by receiving an honorary fellow of the school of music by the Music Department, Obafemi Awolowo University. 

2baba Marriage

2baba is married to Annie Macaulay-Idibia 

The beauty pageant winner and actress holds a Degree in Computer Sciences and Theatre Arts.  Annie owns a beauty salon in Atlanda called BeOlive Hair Studio. 

The couple got married in 2012, and they've been blessed with two children; a daughter named Isabella Idibia who was born in 2008 and Olivia Idibia who was born in 2014.

2baba Career

2baba has a discography which amounts to eight studio albums.

Before enrolling for his tertiary education, he had met the rapper Blackface Naija whose real name is Augustine Obiabo.  They they later began working together and formed a group called Plantashun Boiz with the musician, Faze (Chibuzor Oji). 

The group released two albums which formed a pathway for them to be recognized in the country. The first album, Body and Soul was released in 2000. Three years later, they released Sold Out, this was under Dove Records which was owned by Nelson Browns.

The group was dissolved in 2004 and the trio started focusing on their solo careers. Although the three are not together anymore, they had the opportunity of coming together and they produced another album in 2007. 2Baba released his debut studio album, Face 2 Face in 2004 which ended up establishing him as a solo artist.

Following the success of his first album, 2Baba released his second studio album in 2006 titled Grass 2 Grace. The album contained hits such as One love, True love, 4 instances and African Queen. The latter was used as a soundtrack for the movie Phat Girlz.

2baba released an album in 2009 called The Unstoppable which featured the smash hit single, Enter The Place. It was unfortunate for the album that it was pushed back from its release date. He was faced with album distribution rights in 2007, which altered the dates to early 2009.

A year later, the musician released the international version of the album under the same title The Unstoppable International Edition, where he claimed his international popularity status.

He later released two more singles from the international version of his album. The international status earned him album nominations and won him some of the most notable awards in Africa such as MTV Africa and Channel O Video Awards.

Hypertek Entertainment was born after 2baba left Kennis Music, the record label which had released his debut solo album. 2baba is part of the Sony project, an All African One8 Project alongside seven artists from across the continent. This project had the likes of Prince Lee titled “Hands Across the World

2baba has worked with different artists from all over the world such as Tuface, Davido, Dr Sid, Iyanya, and Kcee  - he had the opportunity to battle with Jay-Z, Kanye West, FUSE, John Legend, Lionel Richie, James Blunt, J. Cole. 

2baba Brand Endorsements 

2baba was the first non-liberal to receive an honorary member of the Liberian Music Society where he was recognized for his remarkable contribution to the African music industry and he was later named RED cross ambassador society of Nigeria.

2baba eventually became the brand's favourite ambassador as Guinness, Nigerian Breweries couldn’t help but work with the musician. He became an ambassador for the National Food Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, in 2009. He later released the hit single, Man Unkind, where he was raising awareness on fake foods and drugs in the country.

2baba Awards and Nominations

 He was awarded the International Youth Ambassador for Peace Summit and the Nigeria Youth Merit Award by the National Youth Council of Nigeria in recognition of his journey and impact he was making to the youth.

This made the musician the pioneer recipient of the award which was presented to him at the first-ever public lecture and fellowship award held in March 2019.

2baba Philanthropy

2baba established a non-profit organisation, The 2baba Foundation. The organisation is driven by the internal motto, “Service to Humanity”. Prior to the name change, the organisation was operating under the name. The 2baba Reachout foundation was eventually changed in September 2016.

The musician started working in partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), 2baba made an initial donation which was over US$11,000 which was set for the returnees and IDPs.

2baba released an awareness International Development Program (IDP) song titled Hold My Hand to mark the World Refugee Day and he dedicated a certain percentage from the song's proceeds to the IDP cause in the world. As a result, he started working closely with other NGOs fighting the same cause such as The Nigerian Red Cross Society, Enough is Enough (EiE), Youngstars Foundation and National Democratic Institute.

2baba Controversy

Turface announced on the 25th of January, 2017 - through his Instagram that he would be leading a nationwide protest against the obnoxious policies implemented by the Muhammadu Buhari Administration. But on the contrary, the Administration worked with the Lagos State Police Commissioner, Fatai Owosenu, and the protest was banned in the state stating it would be turned into havoc. However, the promotion of the protest continued on social media. 

The musician on the 4th of February, the following months prior to the first announcement of the strike - he posted a video on social media cancelling the protest due to security reasons. Speculations on social media were that he was picked up by the police  prior to the video circulating, and said to have posted the video under pressure from the Administration. But he cleared the rumour when he sent through his twitter account denying everything as false.

2baba is estimated to be worth N 15 billion and this is according to statistics provided by Forbes Africa. He has amassed a lot of wealth in his career and this is through his businesses and his album sales. He charges N 2.5 million for a show or an event.

As his name grew big in the country and the continent, 2baba also gained his fame and wealth. 2baba has managed to stay relevant in the Nigerian music industry and remains one of the best hip hop rappers that many in the country adore.
