Power couples exude confidence, are impeccably put together, complement each other and have so much clout, both socially and politically.

As an individual they have power, and with their partners the power multiplies – from their appearances and the projects they tackle, to the good they do for others.

Here are a few of our favourite celebrity power couples in Naija.

Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde and Matthew Ekeinde


As a teenager, Nollywood actress met Matthew Ekeinde, a pilot who she found fascinating.

Omotola started her acting career in 1995, raking up more than 300 movies, and Matthew’s childhood dream became reality, when he signed up to aviation school and earned his pilot’s license. 

The couple literally wed in the air in 1996, when they said their I Do’s on a plane in front of close friends and family. Their decades long marriage has been blessed with four children, who continues to make their parents proud.

Together, the couple have supported each other and encouraged one another, even with the unpredictability of Omotola’s filming schedule. They’ve stayed committed to the foundation of their marriage. 

The support Omotola receives from Matthew and her children, drives her in her work, and encourages her to give back in her personal capacity as a humanitarian and philanthropist.

Her work as an actress and humanitarian earned her an honourary doctorate degree in December 2019, and over the years, Matthew has branched out his career to start his own tourist and entertainment company.

Her impactful work has seen Omotola named as one of Time magazine’s 2013 most influential people, on a list that also featured former US First Lady Michelle Obama, icon Beyoncé and British royal the Duchess of Cambridge.

2Baba and Annie Macaulay


The singer and songwriter and the Nollywood starlet’s romance is anything but typical.

Their love story started during the 1990’s, before 2Baba was the big star he is today, after Annie appeared in his music video for African Queen.

Their relationship took several detours, with other relationships and 2Baba fathering children with other women, but it’s clear their relationship was meant to be.

2Baba and Annie are both superstars in their own right, and when you put them together, they shine even more bright. They’re committed and supportive of each other, and always sharing their love notes to each other on their social media pages.

Their power as a couple was evident in 2018, when they were cast in the Coca Cola advert alongside their two children. This cemented themselves as a power couple, and a power family.

Banky W and Adesua Etomi


The singer and actress are a true Nollywood story – they met on a red carpet just before a glamourous event.

Their 2017 society wedding featured a guest list of Nigeria’s A-listers, in fact their wedding was the most talked about event of the year.

When they’re together, they radiate – their fashion style screams sophistication, fun and regal and their matching outfits always look so effortlessly put together.

Although they’ve only just celebrated their second wedding anniversary, Banky W and Adesua are both award-winning professionals, and together they will continue to enforce their influence on Naija’s entertainment industry.

Joke Silva and Olu Jacobs


Nollywood’s royal couple and acting legends have been married for decades.

Although Joke wasn’t initially interested in Olu when they met at a theatre, romance was soon on the cards, the couple said “yes” and their marriage has been blessed with two children.

The couple, who have several acting awards between them, serving as an inspiration to the younger celebrities, and their relationship and marriage has been void of scandal and rumours of infidelity.

They couple have a deep love and respect for each other, with Olu saying his wife shouldn’t have to change her last name to Jacobs, just because they’re married. In fact, Olu said his wife was self-made before they wed, and it’s just right that she continues to build on her legacy with the name she started her acting career with.

Joke and Olu also give back to the community, and pay it forward. They started the Lufodo Group, which consists of several smaller companies, including the Lufodo Academy of Performing Arts, where Joke oversees the programme.

Joke has also been appointed as a United Nations Goodwill ambassador for the division of drugs and crime, and she supports women’s emancipation and empowerment programmes.

Desmond and Victoria Elliot


Nollywood actor Desmond met, and fell in love with fellow student Victoria, while they were both studying.

Their careers were on different paths with Desmond becoming and entertainer, and Victoria completing her degree in mathematics and entering the finance industry.

The couple wed in 2003 after eight years of dating, and their marriage has been double blessed, with two sets of twins. They have three sons, and one daughter.

Being so close to the entertainment industry, Victoria resigned from her work as a banker, and entered the entertainment industry, with a focus on sales and distribution.

Victoria and Desmond even founded their own production company, Denziot Productions.

IK and Olohije Osakoduwa


Popularly known as the host of Africa’s biggest reality show Big Brother Africa, IK’s marriage to his wife Olohije is one for the love history books.

The couple who got married in 2008, have two children.

They continue to be supportive of each other and showing appreciation for each other on their social media pages. And their relationship has been pretty scandal free.
