Agbani Darego is a Nigerian model and beauty queenwho was the first African to make history when she took the Miss World title in 2001.

She is a great model and a great inspiration to many upcoming models in the country.

Agbani was born on 22 December 1982. She is 37 years old.

Agbani Darego Early Life


Agbani was born in Lagos and her family hails from the Rivers State in Abonnema. When she was only two years old her family moved to Port Harcourt and this is where Agbani spent most of her childhood. 

Agbani comes from a family where she has six other siblings. 

Sadly her mother died from breast cancer.

From a very young age Agbani always wanted to be a model, but her father, Asenite Sikibo Darego, was not in support of what she wanted to pursue. However, this did not stop Agbani from entering the M-Net Face of Africa modeling competition which was her first audition in the modelling world.

She attended Bereton Montessori Nursery and Primary School. 

Soon after completing her secondary education, Agbani then attended the University of Port Harcourt, where she studied Computer Science. 

After her move to the United States, she enrolled at New York University where she studied Psychology, and graduated in May 2012.

It was in 2017, where Agbani got to tie knot with her longtime lover, Ishaya Danjuma. Ishaya is the son of son of Billionaire General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma in Marrakesh.

Agbani Darego Career


No one saw it coming not even Agbani, but in 2001 she became a contestant for Miss Universe and in the same year she was crowned Miss World.

Her participation at Miss Universe had Naomi Campbell invite her to take part at the Frock`n`Roll charity fashion show in Barcelona. Agbani also had the opportunity to represent Next Model Management in London and Paris.

Agbani became the second black woman to work with L'Oreal after Vanessa Williams. Not only was she growing her brand, but in turn she was also putting Nigeria on the map.

Being the beauty that she is, Agbani has appeared on a number of fashion magazine covers. These include, Essence, Cosmopolitan, Stitch, Trace, Allure, Marie Claire, and Elle.

In 2010, Agbani ventured into television where she started her own styled reality show Stylogenic on Nigerian television.

Agbani Darego has also had the opportunity to be on the judging panel for other pageants. She was on the panel for Miss England 2002, Mr Scotland 2002, Elite Model Look Nigeria 2012 and 2014, and Miss World 2014.

In 2014, Agbani announced her new business venture with a brand new fashion line, AD by Agbani Darego.
