DJ Cuppy is one Nigeria's most sought after female DJs who's done nothing, but been making money moves to advance her career.

Not only is she a DJ, but she's also a producer, a songwriter, an entrepreneur and a philanthropist whose influence is spreading to the entire world. 

Having made it big thus far, one would think DJ Cuppy has always had her father as her financial cushion in her career, but that's not the case. DJ Cuppy has worked hard on her own to get to where she is in life. 

Here's how DJ Cuppy rose to fame.

DJ Cuppy Jollof On The Jet

Her latest single ‘Jollof On The Jet’. The single has seen huge success with a Top 5 on Triller Billboard in less than a month of release and charted in over 15 countries.

The psychedelic official video - brought to life by renowned visual artist and director Jimmy Turrel - places Cuppy centre stage amidst trippy visuals, vibrant colour schemes and fellow ‘Jollof On The Jet’ contributors Rema and Rayvanny - a perfect visual accompaniment to the track’s bright, sunkissed vibes.

“Jollof on the Jet is a song that is a breath of fresh air and also picks on you know the pride of Africa through our food and through our music and I couldn’t be more proud of this video.” she said.

DJ Cuppy Age

DJ Cuppy was born on the 11th of November in 1992. She is 27 years old. 

DJ Cuppy Early Life

DJ Cuppy's real name is Florence Ifeoluwa Otedola. She is the daughter of Nigerian businessman, Femi Otedola and her mother is Nana Otedola.

She grew up in Lagos where she lived in Ilupeju for six years before she moved to Ikeja. At the age of 13 she then moved to London with her parents. 

DJ Cuppy Education

For her primary education, DJ Cuppy attended the Grange School in Lagos. 

After relocating to London she got to complete her GCSEs and A-Levels. In 2014, she graduated with a degree in business and economics from the King's College London. 

DJ Cuppy then earned herself a master's degree in music business from the New York University in 2015.

She has a sister by the name Temi who has been with singer and record producer boyfriend Mr Eazi.

DJ Cuppy Relationship

DJ Cuppy has been in some high profile relationships before, but not all were so great. 

She once dated the former Nigerian international footballer Victor Anichebe who plays for Beijing Enterprises. The DJ also dated music entrepreneur Asa Asika. 

At the moment, the DJ is reportedly single and perhaps is looking for her prince charming to come sweep her off her feet. 

DJ Cuppy Career

The DJ has always Cuppy described her sound as "Neo-Afrobeats" which is a fusion of Afrobeats and Electro house.

DJ Cuppy released House of Cuppy as her first compilation mix in London and Lagos in 2014.

In the same year, DJ Cuppy was able to launch her own music management and content production business that she named, Red Velvet Music Group.

2015 was the year when her music career really saw its growth as that is the year where she released House of Cuppy II. With that release, DJ Cuppy went on her first tour 'Cuppy Takes Africa' as a DJ in Africa.

DJ Cuppy got to be the resident DJ for MTV2's Uncommon Sense with Charlamagne Tha God in 2016 and in the same year her African tour aired on Fox Life Africa as a documentary series.

Since then DJ Cuppy has done nothing, but release great hits such as Green Light, which was her first official single in 2017. She then released Vybe where she featured Ghanaian rapper, Sarkodie.

DJ Cuppy released the great hits, Currency and Werk in 2018 and the following year fans received, Abena where she featured Kwesi Aurthur and Gelato featuring Zlatan

In 2020, she landed the Apple Music's first-ever radio show in Africa. Talk about raising Nigeria's flag high, right. The show will be titled; Africa Now Radio with Cuppy.

The show will feature the biggest and best beats Africa has to offer and will cover all musical genres from Amapiano to Afrobongo to house and hip life to everything in between.

Exclusive chats to  popular and influential celebrities and artists making waves on the continent are going to be featured on the show.

In the same year, , DJ Cuppy released “Jollof on the Jet” the lead single off her debut album ‘Original Copy’. The track featured fellow African artists, Rema and Rayvanny, the DJ believes that the track resonates deeply with the South African audience, an audience close to her heart.

“I love South Africa,” the pink-haired muso who was named in May, as the official host for ‘Africa Now Radio with Cuppy’ a new show on Apple Music, said.

DJ Cuppy Awards & Nominations

With her short time in the music industry and from releasing great hits, DJ Cuppy has received some awards and nominations.

  • 2015 - Best Female DJ at the NEA Awards (Won)
  • 2016 - Best female DJ of the Year at the Beatz Awards (Won)
  • 2017 - Best female DJ of the Year at the Beatz Awards (Won)

DJ Cuppy Philanthropy

DJ Cuppy's foundation is aimed at dealing with issues surrounding child protection and education for girls and persons with disabilities.

In 2018, DJ Cuppy launched the Cuppy Foundation and in 2019 the foundation held the Gold Gala where they raised over N5bn for the Save the Children initiative.

DJ Cuppy Brand Endorsements

In 2014, DJ Cuppy became the brand ambassador for Pepsi as their DJ and in 2018 she was announced as their official DJ. She then also appeared in Pepsi's "#NaijaAllTheWay" all star commercial ahead of the 2018 World Cup.

DJ Cuppy picked up two more ambassadorial roles where she became the Global Citizen Education Ambassador and the Ambassador For Save The Children UK. 

She then became the ambassador for Samsung in 2019 and signed a deal with Maybelline as an ‘IT GIRL’. DJ Cuppy also became the ambassador for Tiger Beer in the same year.

DJ Cuppy Controversy

A number of followers of DJ Cuppy have had enough with her constant posts bragging about her lavish lifestyle.

The pink-haired star is known for an enviable wardrobe and love for the finer things in life, particularly luxury labels.

But several fans think she's taken it too far with her 'offending with Fendi' posts which sees the star dressed head-to-toe in the high-end Italian fashion house. Some of Cuppy's fans have claimed her posts are in poor taste, given the financial state of the country due to the pandemic.

But Cuppy clapped back and made it clear she is not here for anyone's approval and is NOT about to stop posting for anybody.

Having been born into a family of afluence, DJ Cuppy has most certainly worked hard to maintain that standard of life in hers.

With no reliance on her parents' wealth DJ Cuppy works hard to make ends meet. She owns a 2016 Mercedes Benz AMG G55 SUV, a a white Range Rover Sports 2017 and a a red Ferrari Portofino.

DJ Cuppy is moving on the fast lane and is focused on producing great music. Her advice to upcoming artists is to work hard and never give up on your dreams. Her hard work has definitely paid off and nothing will deter her off her path of greatness.
