The international producer ensures Mavin Records reach its maximum heights

After working as a security guard, the musician didn't take it as something to make him succumb to the pressure which came with life and to settle for less, instead he made a focus to work on his craft.

Growing up with musical talents, Don Jazzy has always been on the right path towards success. Meeting with the Naija's superstar, D'bánj - in London, it cemented their future as they teamed up and joined forces.

The producer later started his own label, Mavin Records, in which he signed big-time names and worked every single one of them into becoming award-winners. He blessed the nation with Dorrobucci and the vocals of the amazing Tiwa Savage.

Don Jazzy Age


Don Jazzy was born on the 26th of November in 1982. He is 37 years old.

Don Jazzy Family


He was given the name Michael Collins Ajereh at birth. 

The musician was born in Umuahia, Abia state where his mother, Mrs Ajereh is originally from. However, he was raised in Ajegunle city of Lagos state with his three siblings.

Don Jazzy started his education at the co-educational school, Federal Government College, which is based in Lagos. 

Upon completion, the musician enrolled at the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma in Edo state, where he studied towards a Business Administration Degree. 

Don Jazzy Girlfriend


Living a private life, Don Jazzy has never shared pictures of his significant other. He says that he is in a serious relationship, however, there isn't any detail about his relationship.

Don Jazzy was once caught up in a row when Tiwa Savage was going through her divorce with her ex-husband. It was claimed by the ex-husband that Don Jazzy had an intimate relationship with Tiwa Savage but the allegations were declined by both parties. 

Don Jazzy Career


Don Jazzy started playing and showing interest in musical instruments at a young age. He used to play the drums, and he later began playing the guitar at the age of 12.

The elite producer met D'banj in 2004 and the duo combined their creative minds to form Mo' Hits Records. Over a period of two years, Don Jazzy Produced the albums No Long Thing and he later produced Rundown which is also known as Funk You Up.

The duo recorded their third studio album titled Curriculum Vitae which had Don Jazzy starting his own signature entrance, "It's Don Jazzy Again" and through this, he had made his music easily distinguishable.

Don Jazzy was honoured with creating the production of The Entertainer an album by D'banj, which gained numbers for both creatives' followings. The producer also contributed his earthly musical genius on Wande Coal's Mushin 2 MoHits, which is an album considered to be the best out of the history of Nigeria's musical history.

The producer did not take credit for backup vocals on the music he produced. The backup includes vocals for D'banj, Sauce Kid, Dr SID, Kween, Jay Z, Kanye West and Beyonce. Don Jazzy gave an astonishing vocal performance for Watch The Throne's hit song, Lift-Off which was featured Beyonce.

Don Jazzy was later employed by Kanye West's record label, G.O.O.D M.U.S.I.C as a producer and he had the opportunity to work with his employer, and Jay Z in creating their magical album, Watch The Throne which was released in 2011.

D'Banj and Don Jazzy decided to end their 8-year long partnership due to the differences they had as artists. They ended Mo' Hits Records in March 2012.

However, Don Jazzy didn't wait for long until he started his own record label, Mavins Records, which was formed in May 2012. In his announcement, Don Jazzy stated upon introducing Mavin Records, "I see Mavin Records being the powerhouse of Music in Africa in the shortest possible time."

Following his words, Don Jazzy released an album featuring all the artists he signed to his record label. The track list includes hit songs Amarachi, Forever, Oma Ga, Take Banana and Chocolate, YOLO and  I'm a MAVIN

Expanding his record label, Don Jazzy signed the star singer, Tiwa Savage. The producer later started a marketing channel, Marvin League, to promote his artists work and ensure that their sales were beneficial to the record label and the artists.

Don Jazzy started having problems with Wande Coal which resulted in the artist leaving the record label.

Don Jazzy's Awards & Nominations


Throughout his contributions to the music world, Don Jazzy has been an award-winning producer who has worked on countless hits which some have won international accolades, Continental and National Awards.

He has produced award-winning material for his colleagues, artists and people who go to him as a businessman, requesting new music. Here are some of the awards that the producer has won since his debut in the music industry, in 2004. 

2006 - Producer of the Year at the Nigerian Music Awards .
  • 2007 - Music Producer of the Year at the Nigerian Entertainment Awards
  • 2011 - Producer of the Year for Over The Moon,Mr Endowed and Pop Something at the Headies 
  • 2014 - The Headies Producer of the Year for Dorobucci 
  • 2015 - Special Recognition Award at the City People Entertainment Award.

After leaving Mo' Hits Record label, Don Jazzy decided to start Mavin Records which has ever since created a leeway for rappers and musicians in the country and working with international artists, in the mix.

Mavin Records has elevated Don Jazzy's net worth but as a businessman of principle, he has also ensured that he shares the profits by paying the artists and the staff working at the record label.

Don Jazzy Philanthropy


Don Jazzy has taken it upon himself to spread the Covid-19 communications from the Nigerian Government through his Instagram account with over 4 million followers across the globe.

He has shared messages on how to be hygienic to help flatten the spread of the coronavirus. The messages emphasize staying at home in order to curb the spread of the virus.

Don Jazzy has shared several pictures wearing gloves, and a mask to keep himself safe and hopes his fans too.

Don Jazzy Controversy


As a huge fan of The Big Brother Show, Don Jazzy has been caught up in a scandal with the winner of the show,  Dencia, insinuating that she won the show due to her body type, but she immediately clapped-back and asked Don Jazzy, what would be the excuse if it was a guy who won? 

Dencia based her response on the basis of correcting the sexism which was accompanied by the criticism.  

Don Jazzy had a verbal altercation with Olamide at The Headies Awards in 2015. The artists were debating on who should have won the "Next Rated" award.

Olamide believed Lil Kesh was worthy of the award but Don Jazzy, whose artist was part of the category, Reekado Banks - believed that Reekado deserved it way more than the winner of the award who was awarded a car.



Don Jazzy was caught up yet in another controversy when he was called out on social media by the musician Ycee for repealing artists over on their salaries. Don Jazzy however, cleared the air by explaining how a contract works and how artists are supposed to earn what is due to them.
