Oprah Winfrey dubbed her the “Julia Roberts of Africa” during a segment on her talk show titled, Meet the Most Famous People in the World.

Genevieve has starred in over 100 films in the past 20 years and shows no signs of slowing down.

With more than six million followers on Instagram, Genevieve remains one of Nigeria's most popular stars.

Genevieve Nnaji age

Genevieve Nnaji was born on May 3, 1979, in Mbaise, Imo State.

Her parents have seven other children. 

She celebrated her 40th birthday in 2019 with a star-studded bash. D’Banj, Uche Jombo, Rita Dominic and were some of the A-list celebrities who attended.

There are many questions about Genevieve Nnaji’s husband but very few answers. The actress is notoriously private and reveals little to no information about her love interests. 

A 2017 report claimed the star married a European man named AJ Cham. They allegedly tied the knot in Portugal. 

Genevieve has also been linked to singer D’banj but they are just good friends. There was also speculation that she had a romantic relationship with former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar. 

The verdict is still out on whether Genevieve is a married woman.

Genevieve Nnaji Daughter

Genevieve Nnaji has tried to keep her daughter Theodora Chimebuka Nnaji out of the spotlight. She rarely posts pictures of her daughter on social media but when she does the resemblance between the two is uncanny. Genevieve’s followers often say they look like twins rather than mother and daughter.

Genevieve gave birth to Theodora when she was just 17 years old, which would make her daughter’s age around 23. Theodora’s close family and friends call her Dora.

She married Prince Osi Chigozie Ikediwa in 2016. They held their traditional wedding in Mbaise, which is Genevieve’s hometown. Theodora has made a name for herself as a makeup artist.  She owns NAJ Makeup Artistry. Her business has clients in Lagos and Texas, where her husband Prince lives.  

Little is known about Theodora’s father. Genevieve has stated in previous interviews that her pregnancy was not planned, and she was shocked when she discovered she would be a teen mom.

Her family decided she should keep the baby, with her grandmother stepping in to raise Theodora while she completed her studies.

Genevieve Nnaji movies 

Genevieve made her acting debut at the age of eight when she starred in popular TV soapie, Ripples. She scored her first Nollywood movie in 1998.

The then 19-year-old starred in Most Wanted alongside Bob Manuel-Udokwu, Regina Askia, Ayo Adesanya, Ibinabo Fiberisima, Antar Laniyan and Liz Benson.  Some of her hit movies include Ijé: The Journey, Lionheart, 30 Days, Road to Yesterday and The Mirror Boy. She also starred alongside Kate Beckinsale and Gugu Mbatha-Raw in Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje’s 2018 film, Farming.

Genevieve has won several awards since her Nollywood debut, including “Best Actress in a Leading Role” at the 2005 Africa Movie Academy Awards. 

She was the first actress to win the award. Her close friend and fellow actress, Funke Akindele, won the award in 2008.  She joined Funke, Adesua Etomi
and Tiwa Savage in condemning the recent xenophobic attacks in South Africa.

Genevieve received one of Nigeria’s highest honours in 2011. She was recognised as a Member of the Order of the Federal Republic for her contributions to the country’s film industry.

Genevieve is a woman of many talents. Not only is she a producer and director but she is also a singer. Her debut album, One Logologo, was released by Ghanaian’s EKB Records in 2004. 

Genevieve Nnaji Netflix 

Genevieve Nnaji made history in 2019 when she starred in Netflix’s first original movie made in Nigeria, Lionheart.

Not only was she the leading lady in the film but she also made her directorial debut. Netflix acquired the film after it was screened at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2018. The streaming company allegedly bought the movie for $4 million (around ₦1.4 billion). Lionheart was released on Netflix in January 2019.  

The film helped expose Genevieve to an international audience, with Essence magazine, CNN, The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times and BBC World featuring her in online interviews.

Genevieve Nnaji Controversy

In 2016, social media was buzzing with news that Genevieve Nnaji was dead. The drama started when word got out that an actress from Lagos died in her sleep. The actress shared the same name as Genevieve and grew up her hometown. 

It turned out that the woman who died was an up and coming actress named Genevieve Nene. 

Genevieve Nnaji was alive and well in Cape Town, South Africa, where she was celebrating her birthday at the time.

Genevieve Nnaji Net Worth

Several reports claim Genevieve Nnaji’s is now a billionaire thanks to her Lionheart deal with Netflix. Genevieve is reportedly the second highest-earning actress in Nollywood with her net worth sitting at around ₦800 million (over $2 million) in 2018. 

When she is not making movies, Genevieve is running several business ventures, including her clothing line, "St. Genevieve".
