He is known as a lyrical genius, and some rate his rapping to be up the charts.

Jude M.I Abaga nearly went into comedy but with fears of embarrassing himself, the rapper took it upon himself to start his rap career instead.

The likes of Cassper Nyovest, the South African star rapper has exclaimed that M.I. Abaga is arguably the best rapper on the continent.

With putting more of his talking into music M.I has been using rap as a way of communicating to his critics; people who dislike him and those who think they can do better than what he delivers.

As an award-winning rapper, M.I has worked with various artists and he is open to assisting other artists to develop their crafts and help uplift them in society. 

M.I Age

M.I was born on the 4th of  October in 1981. He is 38 years old.

M.I Family

He was born in Jos, Plateau State to his parents, Pastor Abagaand Mrs Abaga who are originally from Takum, Taraba State. 

Both of his parents are Jukun-Nigerian descendants.  

M.I has two brothers, Jesse Jagz who has worked with M.I. in the music industry, and Jason Abaga. 

During his upbringing, M.I would listen to the likes of Lauryn Hill, Bob Marley, Sarah Maclachlan, Pablo Neruda, Jay-Z and DMX. 

When he started his journey in the Hip Hop realm, he started by sampling music from DMX and Lauryn Hill.

M.I Education

M.I started his studies at Jos and later proceeded to Baptist High School. 

After finishing his studies, M.I went to further his studies in the U.S, Michigan State at Calvin College and this is where he pursued his degree in Business and Economics.

During his studies, he would perform at the campus organised events such as poetry night, major hip hop shows and concerts. He gained popularity through his rap skills at the Hip Hopera which was held at Calvin College in 2003.  

M.I Relationship

M.I isn't known to be dating or married, neither does he have children. 

However, he once took to his Twitter page that he is in search of a serious companion, but his search has not yielded any results as yet.  

M.I Career

M.I. started his career in 2003 when he returned to Nigeria from the U.S.

The industry was dominated by the likes of Modenine, Ruggerdman and Eedris, and it was then he worked on his first Mixtape, in collaboration with his former mate, Djinee.

Eventually, the production led to the single, Safe which became a popular song at the time in Nigeria. It gathered impressive numbers by being played on radio and the music video station, formerly known as MTV Vibe.

The hit song allowed him attend the Nigerian Music Video Awards.  After a short while, the single and the hype around it led to M.I. working on his first studio album, Talk About It which was rated 8.5/10 by Oye Akideinde, who is regarded as a music mogul through his 360nobs platform.

The rapper then released another mixtape, PYERIBOY, and he followed this with Illegal Music which was released in 2009.

It was through this album that M.I made it clear about his music style and claiming the top spot of rap through his lyrical talents. He released then Illegal Music II in 2012.

M.I later got together with his brother, Jesse Jagz, Ice Prince, Ruby, Threadstone, Lindsay, Moses (Elbulk), E Kelly to form the Loopy Music Record Label. 

However, M.I later signed to Chocolate City Company, a renowned record label. 

Signing under the record label meant a change of cities for the rapper, from Jos to the Abuja, which is the capital of Nigeria. His move to the city was the beginning of his ultimate exposure as a rapper. 

As a producer, M.I. has produced music for the legendary Don Jazzy, Threadstone (Nigeria's first rock band), Kel, Djinee, Shifi (Styl Plus), Jesse Jags, Ice Prince, Ruby, Lindsey, Leony, Wizkid and many more big names in the music industry. 

M.I's discography includes his four studio albums, four mixtapes and two E.P's.

M.I Awards & Nominations

M.I has been making music since 2003 and he has collected over 40 nominations and has won over 20 awards.

Through his music contribution, he has received international accolades in South Africa from the Channel O Music Awards, MTV Base Awards and also the BET Awards. 

He has been described as the future of African Hip Hop through his sound delivery, and lyricism.

M.I’s Brand Endorsements

M.I was recognized by Nigeria's telecommunication company Glo as their ambassador and he joined the likes of Omawumni, Olamide, Wizkid, and many more.

The rapper was also appointed a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador in 2012. 

He was also featured and recognized as a judge at Glo X-Factor, the Nigerian version of the show, in 2013

M.I Controversy

M.I has been in the eyes of the public and has often been criticized by the public.

In the Xenophobia attacks which broke out between in South Africa, M.I was criticized by most of the musicians in Nigeria including Burna Boy and Vector because he supported the South African rapper, AKA who in turn was voicing his opinions in defense of his country. 

M.I later withdrew his support from the South African rapper and wrote on social media, 

"To everyone, I offended yesterday I apologize. It is always the right time for healing. I hope we can begin to listen to each other and discuss real lasting solutions. I know I will."
The feud between M.I and Viper is not going to end today and M.I is finally opening up on why Viper hates him. M.I says Vector started dissing him because he didn’t feature on a song after Vector had asked him to feature on.

The song is King Kong which was released in 2014. M.I also claims that Vector is jealous,

“I swear by my name coz there’s no higher authority. I will not destroy you, instead I’'ll give you maturity. I’m trying to save your life, Lanre. That’s my priority. You let jealousy jealousy f*** your legacy up… 

The two have been going back and forth and it seems this is going to keep going. 

M.I Net Worth

He has been rated as the best rapper in Africa and is known to be the rap soldier from Nigeria. M.I throughout his contributions and the endorsements, his net worth is estimated to be worth $4 Million.
