Starting off as a producer, and creating hits for musicians such as Flavour, Phyno decided to take on rapping in 2010. He had a game plan for his debut and everybody else was not expecting it.

Phyno decided to create music rapping in his native language, Igbo and Pidgin, which made him gain a huge following as the majority of his fans are Igbo and Pidgin speaking.

He prides himself with being Igbo and believes that through his music, he is promoting and elevating his culture to be known by the whole world as he is an international act who is respected for his contributions to the music scene in Africa.

Phyno Age


Chibuzor Nelson Azubuike, today known as Phyno, was born on the 9th of October in 1986. He is 33 years old. He was born and raised in Enugu State.

As he grew into the musical realm, Phyno started becoming a household name. He received his name from his friends derived from the word, phenomenal and it has ever since has been his everyday name. 

Phyno Education


Growing up, Phyno wanted to be a pilot, but eventually changed his mind and decided to pursue public administration at the Institute of Management of Technology (IMT) in Enugu. Phyno knew his skills and what he was capable of, so he utilised those skills to make himself extra money while in University studying his second year.

Phyno Relationship 


Phyno is known for keeping his personal life as private as one can. The musician is single and isn't known to be married or seeing anyone. As a multi-talented good looking creative, Phyno has been the victim of misreported news regarding his relationship and marital status.

The rapper was rumoured to have impregnated a lady by the name Rita Edmond, but Phyno declined all allegations which were associated with his name and the lady aforementioned.

Phyno Career


Phyno started playing drums, piano and different other instruments while he was in secondary school. When he enrolled in University, Phyno already had a reputation of being a musical genius, and he started selling his beats to different artists.

In 2003, he started producing until 2010 when he relocated to Lagos state and he continued, but as a rapper and producer this time around.

He worked with the likes of Flavour, Timaya, J Martin, Mr Raw and many more musicians. Phyno always wanted to work with Mr Raw as he was fond of his rap style. Phyno started recording his debut album, No Guts No Glory in 2012  - although the album was only released in 2014.

The album featured the likes of Stormex, Flavour, Timaa, Efa, P-Square Omawumi, Olamide, N'ábania, Mr Raw, M.I, Ice Prince and Runtown.

The album received great acclaim - most especially with regards to Phyno rapping throughout in Igbo and Nigerian Pidgin. He believes that rapping in his native language is his strong suit, and that it also represents his love for elevating his culture and traditions through art. 

This is a similar approach by other musicians such as Flavour, Olamide, and Zoro.

Phyno had a collaborative album with Olamide, 2 Kings which was a smash hit on  the Nigerian radio stations, and had a huge number of downloads across the continent.

Nelson has been nominated for over 30 awards in his career since he started being active in 2003.

Phyno doesn't make money only from music, he is also a brand that makes money form his numerous endorsements and other investments such as his record label and endorsements with reputable companies including sports betting company Nairabet.

He is a brand ambassador for Airtel Telecommunications. Currently, Phyno has the highest number of endorsements than any artist in Africa. He is an ambassador for Pepsi, Monster, Glo and many more brands. 


Phyno Net Worth


Phyno is estimated to be worth over $10 Million. He has made his money through his record label - Penthauze Music, endorsements and he is considered to be the highest-paid ambassador in Africa.

As his record label continues to grow and recruit upcoming musicians, his net simultaneous continues to grow. Phyno is a businessman who we cannot tell what's next on his next moves but he always delivers what's best for the industry.
