Tiwa Savage became the first African artist to be signed under the same brand with the likes of Britney Spears, Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, Micheal Jackson, Kanye West, and many more. 

After her family moved to the United Kingdom, the only way for the musician to feel closer to home was through music. 

Before she completely explored the music industry, Tiwa Savage used to lend her vocals as a way of making a living and then joined on backgrounds singing as a backup. 

It wasn't long before she was motivated to return back home, which was when she released her first studio album, and then started collecting awards. 

She was recently featured on colours and as usual, Tiwa Savage always delivers her level best. 

Tiwa Savage Age


Tiwatope Savage-Balogun was born on the 5th of February in 1980 at Isale Eko, Lagos State, Nigeria. She is currently 40 years old.

Tiwa Savage Early Life 


She was raised in Nigeria until she was 11 when her family migrated to the United Kingdom, where she had a chance to experience a multicultural setting. The singer is secretive about her personal life, but she has two brothers and one sister. 

Tiwa Savage Education


After finishing high school, Tiwa Savage enrolled at the University of Kent for a business administration degree. 

Upon completion, she furthered her music career by attending Berklee College of Music on a scholarship.

Tiwa Savage Marriage 


Tiwa Savage was married to Tunji “TeeBillz” Balogun, who used to be her manager. On the 23rd of November 2013, they celebrated their traditional marriage at the Ark, in Lekki.

A few months after their traditional marriage, the couple had their white wedding which was held on the 26th of April in 2014, at the Armani Hotel in Dubai.

The newly married couple announced on the 1st of January in 2015 that they were expecting their first child, and she gave birth to their son, Jamil, 6 months later.

Tiwa Savage Divorce


A year after their marriage, Balogun accused Tiwa Savage of infidelity and witchcraft. In her interview with This Days Newspaper and Pulse Nigeria — Tiwa Savage took the entire 45 minutes to explain and address extensively her former husband's allegations.

Tiwa Savage denied the infidelity allegations. She claimed and accused Tee Billz of financial recklessness and drug addiction, which to her was the reason their marriage had broken down.

Tiwa Savage Career


She started loving music at a young age. Growing up, Tiwa Savage was a trombone player while in high school for the orchestra band.

Surprisingly, she didn't pick music as her first choice after completing her studies. 

During her time working at The Royal Bank of Scotland, she would engage in musical activities and one of her notable achievements is during this phase of her life.

Tiwa would lend her vocals to artists such as Mary J. Blige, Kelly Clarkson, Andrea Bocelli, and many more. Fast forward to this day and she has shared the stage with elites such as 50 Cent, The Black Eyed Peas, Eminem and Destiny’s Child.

Tiwa Savage gained her exposure through The X Factor UK Edition where she was cut in 12th position. Although she lost, the exposure was a complete win for a girl who just wanted to sing.

With the exposure gained from The X Factor, Tiwa Savage decided to pursue her musical dreams and In 2009, the musician signed a publishing deal with Sony/ATV Music Publishing. 

It was a deal that allowed her to offer her writing services to the likes of Babyface, Kat Deluna, Mya and many more. One of the songs she collaborated with Fantasia earned a Grammy Nomination -a remarkable achievement for the singer.

She has also made contributions to Jaicko’s Oh Yeah smash hit featuring Snoop Dogg on his prime. Tiwa Savage has also made contributions to Deluna’s Push Push featuring Akon. She has background performed vocals on Whitney Houston’s album, I Look To You.

The singer was motivated by the growth of the music industry, and she decided to move back to Nigeria to pursue her music career.  She signed with Mavins Records upon her return in 2012, where she was a lead singer on the label's compilation album Solar Plexus.

After her long professional involvement in the music industry, Tiwa Savage released her debut album, Once upon a time, on the 3 of July in 2013. 

Prior to releasing her album to the public, Tiwa Savage held an album listening party at the Wheatbaker Hotel in Ikoyi in May 2013. As it should be, the rewards of attending a listening session came as Tiwa revealed the tracklist to her album and the artists she had worked with.

Mavins Records released a smash hit single Dorobucci in 2014 with Tiwa Savage, Don Jazzy, Dr SID, D’Prince, Reekado Banks, Korede Bello and Di’ja under the production of Don Jazzy. It was the record's first collaborative song since their album release in 2012.

Tiwa Savage released her second studio album R.E.D in 2015. The album's name is an acronym for Romance, Expression, Dance. In the album, she featured the likes of Don Jazzy, Olamide, Dr SID, Iceberg Slim, 2baba (formerly known as 2face Indibia) Prince, Busy Signal and Reekado Banks.

The deluxe version of the album was released in February 2026. It has featured the vocals of Wizkid and P-Square. In less than 24 hours of its release the album was the most played right after her release on musical portals for streaming such as iTunes, Spotify, and Tidal. 

The singer later collaborated with Mi Casa, Lola Rae, Sarkodie, Diamond Platnumz, and Davido on a song for an awareness campaign on DSTV Africa. It was created to inspire Africans to partake in community-based social investment projects and social activities.

Two years later, there were media reports circulating that she had signed a management and distribution deal with Roc Nation. She later announced the deal officially through her Instagram account. 

Tiwa Savage made history by becoming the first Nigerian artist to be signed under Jay-Z's record label, Roc Nation.

Throughout her eleven years of activity in the UK and Africa, she has been nominated for over 70 awards.

Tiwa Savage Controversy


Usually when celebs post their glow up pics on social media, it's quite common that they receive from fellow celebrities and fans. Kelly Rowland posted a pic of herself in a bikini, which many complimented her for.

Tiwa decided to give in her compliment as well, but little did she know it will not end well for her. Followers mistook Tiwa's 'compliment' as a shady swipe at her industry colleague and blasted her for "body-shaming" the US singer.

Tiwa wrote: "Omg not even a single stretch mark", which many believed was a "back-handed compliment" and "dumb comment" and let her know just that. Tiwa did not respond to any of the criticism.

Tiwa Savage Philanthropy


Tiwa Savage is known for her regular involvement in many youth empowerment activities, programs, and events. She is also involved in breast cancer screening projects spreading awareness about cancer and educating people to know the early symptoms, across Nigeria.

The award-winning singer has helped build schools in her hometown. This is her way pf giving bak and ensuring educations of thousands of kids is secured through this initiative. 

Tiwa Savage Endorsement


Tiwa Savage signed a deal with MTN Nigeria which was rumoured to be worth N3 Millions, Pepsi which was a notable deal for the singer to gain global dominance in the industry, and Maggi.

She became the first African artist to be a Pepsi brand ambassador with the following global icons Nicki Minaj, Kanye West, Britney Spears, Arethra Franklin, Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, and many more who were also Pepsi ambassadors.

Tiwa Savage Net Worth


Tiwa Savage signed an endorsement deal with MTN Nigeria reportedly worth $4.5 million.
