Nigeria’s golden boy Wizkid has been making music since his pre-teen years.

After nearly two decades in the industry, he has acquired a small fortune through his music, international tours and business ventures. He even is an artist who sells his work online.

Not bad for a 29-year-old who once lived in the “ghetto” of Lagos.

Here’s a look at Wizkid’s biography.

Wizkid real name

Wizkid’s real name is Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun. During the early years of his music career, he was known as Lil Prinz. He changed to Wizkid as a teenager. Some of Wizkid’s nicknames include IB-boy, Wizzy, Wiz Lion, Wiz Lion and Wizzy Baby.

How old is Wizkid? Wizkid age

Wizkid was born in Surulere, Lagos, on July 16, 1990. His father, Alhaji Muniru Olatunji Balogun, is polygamous and is believed to have 12 other children from his three wives. Wizkid’s siblings are all females, making him his father’s only son.

Wizkid’s mother, Jane Dolapo, credits his Christian upbringing and hard work for his rise to the top. His mother is a Pentecostal Christian while his father is Muslim. Wizkid started his music career in church at the age of 11. He formed the group Glorious Five with some of his friends from church.

Wizkid released his first solo album in 2011. He named the offering Superstar. It was a fitting title as the album helped turn him into a superstar. The album’s lead single, Holla at Your Boy, was released in 2010 and was a commercial success. Wizkid won fans over with his R&B, dancehall and reggae sound. He would go on to win “Best Album of the Year” at the 2012 Nigeria Entertainment Award.

Since his debut, Wizkid has released two other studio albums, Ayo and Sounds from the Other Side. He also dropped a compilation album called Empire State of Mind in 2012.

Wizkid gained global fame when he featured on Drake’s hit single, One Dance, in 2016. He has a large fanbase outside of Nigeria and has performed in South Africa, the UK and the USA. He has over 12 million fans on Instagram and Twitter combined.
